Richard BadeBiography

Richard is from Auckland, New Zealand. He studied a conjoint Bachelor of Arts (German) and Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) from the University of Auckland from 2006 to 2009. After completing his Bachelor’s degrees, he was an intern at Douglas Pharmaceuticals in Auckland for 5 months, in the department of New Product Development. In September 2010, he started his Masters in Advanced Spectroscopy and Chemistry at the University of Leipzig, Germany; which consisted of two semesters of theoretical courses related to spectroscopy: NMR, X-ray diffraction, spectroscopy at liquid and surface interfaces and mass spectrometry. In September 2011 he moved to the University of Helsinki, Finland for the second half of his Masters, where he completed his thesis, entitled “Characterisation of Novel Multicomponent Reaction Products using Two-dimensional NMR”. As of the end of April 2013, he is a PhD student in analytical chemistry under the tutelage of Professor Felix Hernandez at Universitat Jaume I in Castellon, Spain.

The investigation of drugs and metabolites in sewage water and surface water using advanced analytical techniques

The main objective of this project is to explore the potential of TOF MS for screening a large number of drugs of abuse and metabolites in water, as well as for the investigation of unknown compounds using a non-target approach.
